Feel Safe Again
Trauma Therapy in Woodland Hills
The past doesn't have to keep writing your story.
It may not be comfortable to identify with the word "trauma." You might think this word is reserved for others who have had it much worse than you did, or that PTSD is only for soldiers who fought in a war. But if you think it's possible you may have experienced trauma, you are probably right. Trauma lives in the body, and it can quietly dictate your present-day happiness.
Understanding What Trauma Is
Trauma can come from childhood sexual abuse, physical or emotional abuse, a verbally or physically abusive relationship, or a one-time traumatic event. It can also come from neglect, loss, or witnessing harm to others. Trauma isn't about the event itself, it's about how your nervous system responded to protect you. Those survival responses, while life-saving in the moment, can become patterns that no longer serve you.
My Approach to Trauma Therapy
My goal is to make you feel safe. You are always going to be in control and empowered in our work together. We work in a collaborative manner which allows me to support you in the ways you need to be supported, as well as provide you with the tools to combat the shame and terror that accompanies trauma. I use Sensorimotor Psychotherapy to help release trauma through the body, EMDR to reprocess distressing memories, and relational psychotherapy so you never feel alone in the process.
Healing Is Possible
Trauma changes the brain, but the brain is also capable of healing. Neuroplasticity means that with the right support, the patterns trauma created can shift. Many clients arrive believing they are broken, only to discover that their responses make sense, they were survival strategies. Together, we work to honor what protected you while gently building new ways of feeling safe. You don't have to do this alone.
